By Olga Di Paola 6 min read

  • 53 %have no website of their own
  • 84 %of hair, barber and beauty salons
  • 9,811businesses in four cities

53 % of local businesses in Cyprus have no website of their own. We counted 9,811 businesses on Google Maps in Paphos, Limassol, Nicosia and Larnaca in October 2026, and 5,160 of them link to no website. Among hair, barber and beauty salons it is 84 %, among law and accounting firms 22 %.

The businesses come from 66 categories of Google Maps, from hair salons to law firms (how we counted). Restaurants, shops and hotels are not among them.

How many businesses in Cyprus have no website?

5,160 of the 9,811 businesses we counted, which is 53 %. No website of their own means that the Google profile shows no link, or a link that leads to Facebook, Instagram or a booking portal.

  • 3,429 show no link at all.
  • 1,616 link to a social network.
  • 115 link to a booking portal or a directory.

4,651 businesses link to a website of their own.

Which industries have the fewest websites?

Hair, barber and beauty salons: 84 % of them have no website of their own. Among law and accounting firms and in car rental, three in four have one.

Which city has the most businesses without a website?

The four cities are close together. In Larnaca and Nicosia 55 % of the businesses have no website of their own, in Limassol and Paphos 50 %.

  • Larnaca: 921 of 1,667
  • Nicosia: 1,929 of 3,523
  • Limassol: 1,554 of 3,104
  • Paphos: 756 of 1,517

The industry tells you far more than the city.

What do businesses use instead of a website?

Most use nothing. Two in three of the businesses without a website show no link at all, and almost one in three links to a social network such as Facebook or Instagram.

They can still be reached: 4,344 of the 5,160 show a phone number in their Google profile. For these businesses the profile, the phone and a social page are the whole presence. How to set up the profile properly is in our guide to the Google Business Profile in Cyprus.

Do bigger businesses have a website more often?

Yes. We cannot see staff or revenue, but we can see Google reviews, and the more reviews a business has, the more often it has a website.

  • 0 to 9 reviews: 58 % without a website
  • 10 to 49 reviews: 48 %
  • 50 to 199 reviews: 38 %
  • 200 reviews or more: 22 %

Even among the 240 businesses with 200 reviews or more, 53 run without a website of their own.

How does this compare with official figures?

Official figures look only at larger companies. According to Eurostat, 70.7 % of enterprises in Cyprus with ten or more employees had a website in 2025. The EU average is 79.0 %.

So about three in ten of the larger companies in Cyprus have no website, and Cyprus sits eight points below the EU. Eurostat does not publish this figure for Cyprus companies with fewer than ten employees. Our count covers mostly those.

Does a business need a website?

Our count cannot answer that. It shows who has a website, not who earns more. The 53 businesses with 200 reviews and no website show that a business can collect many reviews without one.

Our view: it depends on how your customers choose. If they walk past your door or come back every month, a Google profile with good reviews carries you far. If they compare before they book, they open the websites of the businesses they found. Your customer opens three websites, compares, and picks one. Without a website you are not one of the three.

If you think about one, see what a website costs in Cyprus and our web design offer.

How did we count?

We took the business listings of 66 Google Maps categories around the four cities and looked at the website link in each profile. The listings show the state of May to September 2026.

  1. The area: 20 kilometres around the centre of Paphos, Limassol and Larnaca, 15 kilometres around the centre of Nicosia.
  2. Every business counts once, also if Google lists it in two categories. That removed 901 doubles.
  3. Left out: 669 businesses marked as closed, 1,048 north of the buffer zone or abroad, and 36 branches of international chains.
  4. That leaves 9,811 businesses.

What the numbers cannot show:

  • They are 66 categories, not all businesses in Cyprus. Restaurants, shops and trades such as plumbers and electricians are missing. Hotels are left out, because Google lists single holiday flats as hotels.
  • A business can have a website and not link it in its profile. Then it counts as without. The real share may be somewhat lower.
  • A link is not a working website. In our speed test, 65 of 1,233 linked websites did not answer.
  • Businesses without a Google profile are not in the count at all.
